Human beings disagree over many things here on earth, we have different opinions, different interests, different obstacles. Some say that the cholesterol is our foe, while others say it’s North Korea or even Terrorists, but in truth we have only one common enemy which causes all our trouble and misery; The Devil.
We’re all acquainted to “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” right? So that makes of us ALL friends. The problem arise when we aren’t aware that this entity swore to spend its existence to ruin ours.
Who doesn’t sin? Even the best amongst us sins, the difference is who has a conscience to repent and who doesn’t. The human being who doesn’t have a conscience doesn’t know that he has sinned, so he will keep doing the same ill over and over. He has no regrets, the devil is so close to his mind and conscious that he’s blocking any goodness that the person might have by his treacherous certainty. So half of the blame is upon us who accept the devil’s temptation.
Now who is this Enemy of ours who gives us too much importance to waste its existence among us?
The Holy Scriptures tell us a good amount of information on the matter, for instance:
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring[i] and hers; he will crush[j] your head, and you will strike his heel.” To the woman he said, “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children, Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”
To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” Adam[k] named his wife Eve,[l] because she would become the mother of all the living.
The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side[m] of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever
To open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’
Al Araf 7: 11-27
We created you, then We shaped you, then We said to the angels, “Bow down before Adam;” so they bowed down, except for Satan; he was not of those who bowed down.
He said, “What prevented you from bowing down when I have commanded you?” He said, “I am better than he; You created me from fire, and You created him from mud.”
He said, “Get down from it! It is not for you to act arrogantly in it. Get out! You are one of the lowly!”
He said, “Give me respite, until the Day they are resurrected.”
He said, “You are of those given respite.”
He said, “Because you have lured me, I will waylay them on Your straight path.
Then I will come at them from before them, and from behind them, and from their right, and from their left; and you will not find most of them appreciative.”
He said, “Get out of it, despised and vanquished. Whoever among them follows you—I will fill up Hell with you all.
And you, Adam, inhabit the Garden, you and your wife, and eat whatever you wish; but do not approach this tree, lest you become sinners.”
But Satan whispered to them, to reveal to them their nakedness, which was invisible to them. He said, “Your Lord has only forbidden you this tree, lest you become angels, or become immortals.”
And he swore to them, “I am a sincere advisor to you.”
So he lured them with deceit. And when they tasted the tree, their nakedness became evident to them, and they began covering themselves with the leaves of the Garden. And their Lord called out to them, “Did I not forbid you from this tree, and say to you that Satan is a sworn enemy to you?”
They said, “Our Lord, we have done wrong to ourselves. Unless You forgive us, and have mercy on us, we will be among the losers.”
He said, “Fall, some of you enemies to one another. On earth you will have residence and livelihood for a while.”
He said, “In it you will live, and in it you will die, and from it you will be brought out.”
O children of Adam! We have provided you with clothing to cover your bodies, and for luxury. But the clothing of piety—that is best. These are some of God’s revelations, so that they may take heed.
O Children of Adam! Do not let Satan seduce you, as he drove your parents out of the Garden, stripping them of their garments, to show them their nakedness. He sees you, him and his clan, from where you cannot see them. We have made the devils friends of those who do not believe.
Unfortunately to turn things worse, lots of other demons are at his service, he’s not alone to spread evil around the world.
What about his entity? It’s not really described in any of the Holy Scriptures but the Devil isn’t a material being, he must be a kind of spirit with an energy capable of interfering with our own minds and lives.
So instead preaching hate let’s gather our strength to fight the one who really hates us; Lucifer.
