Haha because you’re from the UK, “a few birds” made me laugh. Then I saw Rope and Leather Straps and my mind went to places… Lol
Once I cleaned up a little,  I made my choice, but Linda made the main one already.
Money, enough to hire a tree service plus more
Phone, for calling the tree service, plus ordering some food and supplies, a table, and other things
Water, in bottles, for everyone to drink
A few birds, haha, to serve everyone
And a turkey, fully cooked, placed on the table I ordered, next to the catering I ordered, feasted upon by the friends I called with the phone, inviting you all to dinner. The workers can have some too. 

My Answer :

I must say that i was a little bewildered that  everyone chose money, even though it’s the right answer. Because it wasn’t meant to be that easy. The purpose of this question was how to cut a tree with rudimentary tools. That’s why I proposed a stone, an iron pole, a cow…. 

So my answer is: 

I would take the pole and secure it with the stone by some leather straps, then I’ll tie some leather straps to the cow. After hitting the tree with the pole/stone and making a good cut , I’ll make knot around it  with the rope and tie it to the cow, for this one will pull the tree (well ahead of it of course) and make it fall.
